If you would like to get on an E-mail list that would send you the latest information on bills of interest to all of us please contact SMSGT Duane Fields  SMSGT Fields is the chairman/legislative representative for the Council and maintains an extensive mailing list. He keeps us informed of all bills in both the house and senate that will have an impact on military retirees.

There are over 5000 retired military from just the Army in the greater Springfield area and who knows how many from the other branches. It has become pretty obvious that most of you could not care less what is happening to the benefits we all earned by our service or you'd take the one hour or so once a month to attend these meetings. DOD is trying their best to increase our co-pays for medical benefits we were all promised and the only way to keep this from happening is to show an interest. For those of you that attend the meetings, thank you for caring, for those of you that don't attend thank you for helping prove to DOD that the majority don't care.

Committees

We have a member on the PX, Commissary, and hospital boards and our chairman is a member of the Fort Leonard Wood Retiree Council and past co-chairman of this Retiree Council.

I've made a few changes to the top of my home page at http://mrgrg-ms.org/ that I thought may interest to you. I will be sending the paragraph concerning the "

United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Decisions" to Congressional Staffers. I'll bet that less than 5% of the Congressional Staffers know about these court decisions. I'll go a step further and bet that less than 10% of our military retirees know about the court's decisions. Even at this late date the Congressional Staffers need to know about the Greatest Swindle of all time. And, what happened to us is a swindle. In my opinion the court admits that it was a swindle when they wrote "They served their country for at least 20 years with the understanding that when they retired they and their dependents would receive full free health care for life. The promise of such health care was made in good faith and relied upon." Of course you know the rest of the story... "Again, however, because no authority existed to make such promises in the first place, and because Congress has never ratified or acquiesced to this promise, we have no alternative but to uphold the judgment against the retirees' breach-of-contract claim." This is nothing new coming from me. As you know I've been harping on these court decision since the first time I read them. Forget hell, not a chance!

A message to the:
United States Congress, the American People, Military Retirees, Military Retiree Widows, and anyone interested in justice and fair play.

What would you do if you made payments on a house for 20 years under what you thought was a contract only to discover that the contract wasn't authorized and the house isn't yours?

What would you do if the people that sold you the house closed the house and told you that you could not live there anymore?

What would you do if you served for 20 or more years in the military being told that if you served until retirement you would receive free medical care for yourself and your eligible dependents at military treatment facilities for as long as you or they lived only to discover, via a court ruling, that the promise wasn't authorized and the government reneges on the promise.

What would you do if you were told that you could not use the military treatment facility where you had been receiving medical care for years, and you had to go on Medicare and pay for Medicare part B just like the average citizen that never served a day in the military?

Would you fight for what is yours, or would you just roll over and play dead?
