Uniting military retirees in their fight to regain earned benefits promised by the government for twenty years or more of faithful service. This council is dedicated to obtaining all benefits promised and earned by those of us that served. We are also fighting to put an end to military retirees having to pay their own disability pay with a reduction dollar for dollar in retired pay for disability pay.

The Springfield Area Military Retiree Council has been active since 1995 and is the most active council in the state and one of the most active in the United States.  We meet the second Tuesday of each month at the American Legion Goad Ballinger Post 69, in the basement,149 Memorial Plz, Springfield, MO. at 6:30 P. M. (1830 hours). Parking is in the parking lot just to the east of the building on the north side of the lot. Entry is thru the basement door on the north side of the building. The meetings are open to all military retirees, their spouses, widows and widowers of military retirees and all are invited and encouraged to attend.

The council was started by CSM Mack Williams, Retired, when he, along with a small group of other retirees, realized we couldn't get the medical benefits we were promised and had earned. Mack recently passed away but he never gave up on his fight to get our benefits restored that we were promised. Please keep up the fight to honor him and what he worked so hard to accomplish.

For the first six years, the average size of the meetings consisted of seven to ten people that attended consistently and a few more that would attend once or twice then give up.  The council now has about seventy-five consistent members, counting the widow's group that meets at a different date time, and have had up to three hundred attend. There are over five (5) thousand retired military in the greater Springfield area and the reason we don't have these benefits, and keep loosing more, is most people fall into the second category! Imagine what we could accomplish if we were to all band together on a monthly basis! United we stand! If we all band together once and for all, we will finally obtain what we've earned. We usually have a representative present from Congressman Blunt, Senator Bond and Senator McCaskill's  offices, which we greatly appreciate.  Our state and local government representatives are always welcome to attend though so far only Mr. Shane Schoeller has seen fit to do so.

Any input to help me improve the web site would be greatly appreciated. I've been doing the newsletter and web sites since the beginning of the council and it's getting more difficult each year to come up with ideas. You may send it to by clicking on CW4 Jerry Miller

This council has the most active widow's group in the state. It meets the third Monday of each month at the Heritage Cafeteria 1364 E Battlefield Rd (corner of Fremont and Battlefield). The meeting is from 1130 till 1300 hours and is designed so that those widows/widowers that have difficulty driving at night can attend and obtain the needed information on legislative affairs. The Chairman of the Military Retirees Widows is Mrs. Margaret Maulin and if you would like more information please just click on her name and send her an email. She will be very happy to provide you with the requested information.

KY3 TV  has been kind enough to allow us to list our meetings on their Community Calendar for many years and we are very grateful for their support.

We publish a newsletter each month, that hopefully, has items of interest to military retirees. Fort Leonard Wood's Retiree Services Officer copies and distributes this to the members of the council.
